Made a decision!

Are you kidding me??? The C4 coupes look 99999999999999x better than the convertibles. Stay with the coupe.
The tops can be a bit of trouble to put on and take off, I don't have any issues with mine but my father who is significantly smaller then I am had no end of problems putting it on and taking it off.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
1. The coupe rides better when the targa is in.
2. With the targa top out, the vert rides better...doesn't matter if the top is up or down.
3. The vert top is a little quicker and easier to take down.
4. The vert top has more maintenance than the targa.
5. The coupe has about 3-4 time more room to throw "stuff".
6. It's difficult to go on a long trip and take luggage (more than 3 days) unless it's by yourself. If you stuff the back compartment with luggage, the top will not go down.
7. Verts come with a undercarriage X- brace for stability, where the coupes do not.
When your looking at a vert, make sure you check to make sure the top does not "bubble" up while driving. You may have seen this...as I have seen the vert tops have a hump to them when traveling down the road. This is apparently the headliner has come loose from the actual top. If a cat gets on the top, it's time to put antifreeze in some hot dog weiners.
I rarely let the top down, mainly due to the short trips I usually make. I prefer the coupe over the vert due to the looks. BUT, if the vert has a hardtop, the vert come first.
If you have any specific questions, let me know.

You look real cool messing with a ratchet or power tool while I have put my top up or down and have left some time ago.
Both look good, but seriously, why hate on the Vert? Both styles have their advantages and disadvantages. Just enjoy the ride.
To aqua: RRT Vette gave some good info on verts. I'd hit him up for more if I were you.
Vette was already in the family, right? If you only have one and it is frequently driven, the Targa is the best choice -- but if I had a few $$$$ to spare, there would be some sort of vert in the garage.
