About a week ago I bought a new maf (micro tech $220)for my '88 c4 from zip products and anyways the cars in the shop now-its been stalling out since I put the new maf on. The mechanic says that maybe they got a bad batch of mafs. I think Im just gonna return it and get an AC Delco maf.
There are 3 different codes for the MAF system function. Chances are that the replacment MAF you purchased is good and one of the two relays is bad or could be in the wiring or connection. When you get the car home and get a chance....pull the codes and see what you have. Don't disconnect the battery before pulling the codes.
Its an intermitten code-will it still show up?
The car ran even worse once I put this maf on so Im guessing this ones defective. I ordered an AC Delco maf yesterday.
If you did a different MAF and you're still getting light/code? It might not be the actual MAF, even though that's what the code says, but the burn off relay...Check it (burn off relay) before spending more money on another MAF. This was another one of those little "Corvette Nightmares" that took awhile to figure out at one time passed on my '88. Always remember this...The dealer knows less about these cars than you do. This is still true even if you know NOTHING about your car!!!
The the ECM throwing a code? There are also the MAF power and burnoff relays above and behind the battery.
My88 had the same code, I replaced the two relays, both have same part number, and no more code. One is the MAF and the other is the burn off relay. Cost $20 at the dealer. Cheap shot before you spend $200+ for a MAF. A good vette mechanid said this is the usual problem, not the MAF when it throws 36 Code.
