I think I just got myself into more trouble than I care to get out of.
I bought my first Vette tonight. 1986 Gold. That's about all I know of it. Yeah yeah yeah, should have researched it, don't know anything about cars RED flag red flag. BUT I picked it up for practically nothing (an old dirtbike and $800)
So, I've got (needless to say) a project car. Clean title, car runs pretty poorly.
Paint is decent, not great.
Interior is pretty good, needs new seals on the doors though.
Leather is in excellent condition, all things considered.
Motor is... Well, it's still in there, but it's in pretty bad shape. Picked up a new timing chain and gears (that is most of the malady right there) Huge!! thanks to Lars Grimsrud for putting together that great how-to. That with the service manual should really help.
Anyway, I don't plan on having it running and playing with yall just yet, but I wanted to know if any of you road-race? I see LOTS of drag racing activity, but no real SCCA or course racing discussion going on.
Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little about me and my new basket case.
Let's see, more about me since nobody asked. :D
I have lots of motorcycles, I ride bikes all the time--sportbikes, dirtbikes, trails, motocross, and most recently I've picked up bicycling. I am in Austin, Texas. I own an advertising agency here. MBA student at UTexas.
My current garage looks like this in order of aquisition:
1986 Corvette
1997 KTM Duke
1998 CBR 600 F3
1998 YZ 250 and 1998 CR250 Dirtbikes
1989 Honda Hawk
2000 RC51
2001 Toyota Tundra
Umm.
1984 Honda Shadow
1996 Honda Civic (Riced out)
I think that's it.
Well, I'm looking forward to wasting way too much time on this forum. Shoot me an email if you live in Austin and you want to drop by and laugh at me trying to change timing gears/chain out.
Whats up Jopod..im only an hour and a half away from yah...been a while since ive seen anyone near me...Sounds like a potentially good car...just keep workin at it.
Were U @ the car show in Plano Saturday. If so I was the guy who stoped by and asked what year U'r car was when U first pulled in. :yesnod:  :yesnod:
Welcome and GOOD LUCK! :yesnod: I am wanting to get into the SCCA racing with my vette I just don't know how to go about it. I know that they have street night at the drags strip but I sure wish that they had Street night at one of those courses. Let me know if you find anything out about it and I will do the same for you. Talk to you later!
Welcome! My 2nd Vette was a basket case, and if this forum had been around back then, I may have still had it. Good luck in the restoration. If nothing else, you'll learn how to fix things that will come in handy in the future!
