Call for more explanation. Maybe you can move the hood strut and get it to work???
My thinking is that most other panels are interchangeable. You can even put LTx bumpers on an early body. (Looks like you know that from your avatar).

84 hood has different tunnels molded in it to put air to the crossfire air cleaner. 84 is 1 year only hood, and is not a direct fit replacement.
To my knowledge, all other body panels will interchange between the 84 and 88 model years.
Cross fire belt moldings for the small fenders, and the panel behind the rear glass are also slightly different. 86 and later has 3rd brake light and 84-85 do not.
