Now that I have 18'' on all 4 wheels, does my car sit higher now? if so how low can I go to where I can eliminate wheel gap and not soo low to the ground?
Based on that photo, I would leave the front alone. Those photos sure do make the rear wheels look smaller than the fronts.
The good news on lowering is that the rear is way easier than the front, at least from what everyone has posted on here. Lots of good info. on lowering the rear if you search.
I'd drop it about 1.5 inches. Maybe measure the gap between the top of the front tire and the bottom of the front fender. Just make the rear match.
I will hopefully be going to 18" all around in the next couple weeks. I'm hoping to fill up the front well enough that I don't feel the need to lower it. Then maybe I'll just take the rear down.
Also, height will be affected by not just the size of the wheel, but also the aspect ratio of the tire.
So if you had something like a 255/50/17 on there, and went to a 285/35/18, there might not be much overall difference in the ride height of the car, even though the wheel was an inch taller.
There was a cool chart that said what the speedometer error was for this kind of switch. Last I saw it, it was in a post about figuring out which wheels came with which C4s.
It was at the bottom of the page, and was a great resource.
What size tire? If you put a similar size tire on then the height of the car would not have changed. Goto the tirerack.com and check the specs. That will show the outside dia. of the tire. This may also help:
Right now I have an 86 with 255/50/16's, the original size. I was planning on upgrading to the 275/40/17's that you see on 88 and newer. I already have a little bit of wheel-well space with the originals. Do you guys think that it would be about the same when I switch or that there will be more wheel well space? Also, the car only sets 4 inches or so off the ground now. Speed bumps and driveways are hard enough. How in the world do you manage to get anywhere when you lower these cars?
