Default Re: Passive Keyless Entry System on '93 vert

Hello all,

I'm new to the "C4" forum as I've just purchased my first C4, a '93 vert.

My car did not come with an electronic PKE FOB and I'd like to buy one. They are readily available on ebay, new in factory sealed packaging. Before I make the purchase, I wanted to make sure that my car has this system. The dealer I purchased from gave me an owner's manual for a '93 which describes this system like its a standard feature, in other words I'm not seeing the wording "if equipped" or "optional".

Does anyone know if this was a standard feature on the '93 convertibles?
or does anyone know what code to look for on the feature/paint code table stickers in the car?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

DH

Thanks "clf93lt1".

The owners manual was kind of written like it was a standard feature, but you never know, and it wasn't the original manual that came with car when purchased new.

Thanks again for the information.

I purchased my '93 way back in....'93 and yes, it was a standard feature. Oh, and back in '93, it was a real "gee wiz!" feature. People couldn't believe my Vette would unlock itself just by me walking up to it.

I'll bet it was a "gee whiz" feature back in '93. I think its pretty cool now!

Thanks also for the reply to my question.

Convertibles use the one button fob, unlike the two button fob for coupes.

Thanks "Z-07 freak" for pointing out that detail.

Default Before buying the FOB, does the PKE system work?

dhend25,

It is odd that the FOB did not come with the car, which might imply there was a problem with the system.

You might want to verify a few things first.

Does the 'security' light flash on the dash when you take the key out of the ignition and open the door and does the radio turn off when the door is opened? If not, it might imply something is wrong (e.g. the door switches are not working, which are required for the PKE to work).

Can you get into the programming mode for the FOBs (even though you don't have one, it would at least verify that the PKE unit works.

When we acquired our 1994, though it came with one FOB, neither it, nor the alarm, nor the door switches, were working and the radio used to stay on for 15 minutes after exiting the car.

It took replacing both door switches, and cleaning the little ball-bearing inside the FOB to get everything working again (thankfully the PKE system was ok).

BTW, be aware there are different FOB's for different year corvettes.

Also, good news, once you program your new FOB, it deletes any programming for old FOB's, so you need not worry about any FOB's floating around.
