Catalytic Converter overheating
One of my Cat Converters is burning and smoking on my 86 C4, it actually caught fire but i was lucky enough to extinguish befor it did any damage, any suggestions and can i chop the Cats out without any detrimental effects.

You could just remove both of them but then you might have trouble passing the sniff test if its required in your area. (In any event it is illegal to tamper with any smog control equipment). Get yourself a set of good high flow cats for replacements. Mid America has them for about $150.00 each. You were lucky the first time (with the fire). Don't push your luck.
