Default Tough start

Does anyone have any idea or ever had this problem. Why when I start my car in the morning (89 corvette coupe) that it takes 4-5 attempts before it starts. It wants to crank over each time but until the 4rth or 5th attempt it will not turn over. Once the car is on, if you shut it off it starts up on the first try. For some reason once the car sits for a period of time I have a tough start. It is not the starter. Can anyone help here?

Thanks

I'm guessing you mean it requires 4-5 turns of the key before the starter engages and turns the crankshaft. If,as you say, the starter is good (?) then it is either the battery or cables. My initial suggestion is to make sure the cables are both clean and tight. I would also have the battery tested and fully charged.

Search the IAC here or Idle Air Control Vale. It's located or it is on my '92 on the right side of the throttle body. Have you changed this lately? It's probably dirty and needs either cleaning or replacing.
