Default Deceptive Pricing?

This darn bad luck with this Corvette just won't go away!

I ordered a catalog from one of the major Corvette retailers and the prices listed in the catalog were much less then any of the competitors. I ended up ordering carpeting, rear cover retainer clips and the gauge bezel plastic. I wrote the part numbers down and purchased them online at work. I thought the price was way higher then I figure it would be at home, but I thought they just had outrageous shipping charges for the carpeting or something. When I got home, I found out that the website pricing is 10% higher then the catalog pretty much across the board. I feel cheated!! Now I'm trying to get my 10% returned from the retailer and they won't respond.

Has anyone ran into this before and if so did you get your money back? If I don't get my $ back, I'll most certainly drop the name here real soon! Be careful and always check the prices. This seems like a scam to me.

If you purchased on line where the price was higher, there isn't much you can do outside returning everything for your money back. Now if you sent in the catalog order sheet, mailed it in, and they charged you the higher price, you might have some leverage.

I'd call and let them know of the discrepancy, ask for a refund of 10% and if they are unwilling, return everything for a full refund (less shipping).

A word of warning. If it's a supporting vendor, don't say anything. I've seen people slapped down for saying bad things about supporting vendors.

If you return the items, you will of course pay foir shipping but some retailers also charge a restocking fee.

It might help if you tell them that you beling to the Corvette Forum and we all tend to stick together like glue when someone mentions a place with questionable business practices. They probably don't care. Oh well, I find their prices to be a little high anyway.

Corvette Central???? Damn.... they were the only ones that I have had really positive experiences with. It's getting harder and harder to find good upstanding vendors anymore.

I, too, have been disappointed with certain supporting vendors here on the forum.

I found this with the "other" corvette part vendor as well. Stuff in catalog quite a bit cheaper then online.

Kind of shady.

Was the catalog current? Is it possible that you were looking at an outdated catalog with prices that have since been increased?

Needless to say, I'm not interested in doing business with them anymore.
They rarely print a new catalog. I like this -- compared to MAD because I assume their pricing isn't inflated because of their advertising costs. Because of this, your catalog probably is out-of-date! But, I think they should inform you of this when a catalog is shipped. I have NEVER received a new catalog in several years. I'm not sure they even print one any more. The one you got might be from circa 1998! (The 1998 version I have is catalog 4A).

That said, ANY retailer may have updated pricing (online) since catalogs were shipped. But, I would expect any prices quoted at the time of order to be honored. Did you get prices quoted during the order?

Not so much I dislike Corvettes, I just bought the wrong one. I'm bleeding money and I still have no interior nor a transmission that works.

I'm seriously out of money and I have to make the choice of either selling the Vette, sell my other "hot rod" as my 4 year old daughter calls it, or be content with the Vette sitting lifeless in the garage until I find more funds.

I just recently purchased a cat back system from them.
Their web site blairs a "$25.00 shipping charge for complete cat-back systems"

When I received my invoice the next day, they had charged me $37.85 for shipping, plus $7.00 for oversize packaging. Thinking that I didn't buy a matched manufacturer's set, this might be why they charged me more than the web-site price.

So I fired off an e-mail to them about it.
I got an e-mail back the next day, stating they would correct the charge to my credit card from $37.85 to $25.00, but they would still charge $7.00 for the oversize packaging (no mention what-so-ever about this on the web site).

BTW, there's a nice stretch of road out in front of my house.
Just in case you want to drop that car on the "side of the road"
Leave the keys/title on the visor.
