Slow is a relative word. Slow compared to what? The drivers window on my 85 goes down twice as fast as the pass side window does.

Maybe your motors worn or you just need to hit the button before you get to the drive-up window.

my 84 driver window is slow as all heck. passanger side works great. I think the driver window is used alot more. the brushes on the electric motor are probably wearing out pretty good, and the comm is probably getting burnt. most likely a good cleaning might make it work better, but your most likely going to need to replace that window motor with a new one eventualy. - me to

on a side note, when I was tinkering with the door pannel off, I sprayed all the door lock stuff ( moving parts ) with a light silicon lube, and the key and the door lock work 10 million times easier. - I wonder if there is some window related items I can spray with that stuff, to make the movement up and down easier on the electric motor?

The switches can have an impact on the speed the windows move as well, i replaced both in my 87 and the windows went like new again.

You can also lubricate the tracks while the door panel is off, and make sure the glass guides are not adjusted too tight.

I'm pretty sure the motor assembly for 86 and up was changed to make it better, and will fit an 84. Do a search, should be lots of posts about this.

86 convertibles and everything 87 and later use a "scissor" arrangement instead of the "ribbon" setup on the earlier cars. It is an easy upgrade, the units can be found on ebay regularly. I had to replace a ribbon and decided not to upgrade, I cleaned and lubed everything and that helped a lot.

My 86 had the same problem. I had the window mechanism replaced and problem solved. Its a PITA to do yourself only because of the door panel removal and reinstall. If you can do that then the rest should be no issue.

Thats not 100% true, my 87 and a couple others i know of had the ribbon type in it and i thought someone had put them in there, but they were factory. Not to say they all did though, and i know all the info says the same as you have.
