Default HELP Engine swap

I just threw a rod in my l98 engine and now Im left trying to find out what kinda engine I should put back in it and weather or not they will work properly. My brother is trying to get me to use an older chevy 350 block and build a quality engine from scatch, But I don't know how since the older engines don't have a knock sensor. Can you relocate them? Also can the ecu be moded to accomidate any engine set up? Any help would be greaat also if you know of an engine please help!

The knock sensor should go into the block drain hole. You should be fine. An 87+ block will give you the full roller option on your cam. That'd be nicer.

You could even look into doing a 383 for more fun.

A knee jerk answer is yes, an older block will work. Swapping an older flat tappet block into a roller block may be more tricky. Haven't done one. Flat tappet for flat tappet is simple.

Default tpi setup

Will the tpi setup bolt onto the older block I heard something about different bolt angles for I think it would the tpi setup or maybe it was the heads. Does this sound right or wrong/

First, we need to know the year of you L98. Unless you wiped out your block, you should be able to rebuild the old engine. All the parts should bolt on to an earlier block, but there are differences in the crankshafts after 85. All the vette L89's use the same intake bolt setup (even the alluminum head ones.)

I don't think this is correct actually. I'm pretty positive the intake bolt pattern changed with the aluminum heads. You actually have to elongate the bolt holes on the intakes that bolted up to the iron heads to make them fit with the aluminum heads.

What zr1 said. Could give better reasoned answers if we knew at least the years of the two engines in question.

It would also be helpful if you filled out your profile so we know what part of the world you live in. You might just have several forum members nearby who would be willing to lend a hand.
If you are looking to save money just get a used L98 and replace yours. You can find one at www.vette2vette.com
His shop is located just north of Bloomington, IL.

OK well I updated my profile but to save you time here is some info I live in Springfield Oregon. phone number 541-914-7934. I currently have an l98 engine in my car which is stock but it thew a rod and ruined the block. Now Im just trying to figure out which way to go about getting my car back on the road for under 2000 dollars (maybe more if it was nessecary. I would like to keep the fuel injection but everything else can change. What is the best direction to go with this. Performance is desired out of this build
