Can you tell from the outside if the 96 is an LT4? I have seen pictures where there is a badge on the right back below the belt-line. But I do not know if that is aftermarket.
I just read on LT4.com that all 96 6-speeds had LT4's. I had not heard that before.
Is it as simple as: If manual transmission - LT4, if auto - LT1?
Yes its as simple as that, if you are really interested in an LT4, all I can tell you is, I have had mine for almost 2 yrs now and I like it more every time I drive it! I don't drive it during the winter months up here in the "FROZEN TUNDRA" , its a summer car only! If you have any questions at all, this is the place to find your answer!! The "looking for the right car" is half the fun!!!
The eighth digit on the LT4's VIN will always be a 5. (if its a real LT4)
The eighth digit on the LT1's VIN will always be a P. (if its a 96 LT1)

There were no badges from the factory on the LT4s so the only ways of knowing if you had one was if it was a 6 speed, the VIN # or the red engine. :smash:
