wheel squeaks ?
Sounded like squeaking coming from the right rear wheel today as I was driving. I could hear it clearly when it was happening as I drove slowly with the stereo down. It would go on and off sporatically. Most of the time, wouldn't make a sound. Is this just something I may need some brake squeak spray on or is it typically somethin else? It isn't grinding or anything from what I can tell. I had that happen with the rotors before I had a pair replaced. I'm wondering because It has been raining here alot lately. TiA.
I noticed how much damage they can do if they're ignored....How regularly should these half shaft U joints be greased/checked? Also, if I don't do it myself, how long would it take or how much would it typically run if a shop did it?

Factory joints are sealed (no zerk fittings for greasing). There are threads on here about the best replacement u joints (spicer I think).
Shops charge too much for these, but not a bad dyi deal. I think I saved the instructions here somewhere. But let's not get the cart before the horse. Jack it up and check everything first, it could still be one of the less likely options.

The u joints for the rear axle(depending on which one) are "half-shaft" I take it? They don't look too expensive. I'm having someone take a look at em tomorrow. If I can't grease the old ones, how long do new ones typically take to put in?

Yes, half shafts connect the center diff to the wheels, two u-joints each side. Doubt grease would help, if they are squeaking they are shot. Step by step intructions sent via PM.
I just finished this job up. Mine were sounding very similar to what you described. There's a lot of discussion about which u-joints to use, I decided to go with Spicer (they are the OEM for the originals). After gathering all the parts I only had about 3 1/2 hours in the R & R. I don't know if that is a good time or not, but I felt pretty good about the time frame.
I did some cleaning under there while I was at it and replaced some bushings (sway bar) and the tie rod boots.
