Had my '92 into the dealer for a fix on the horn.

We've got a real sharp 'Vette mechanic at our local dealer.

While he was in there he told me that he found quite a bit of slop in the steering wheel. I hadn't noticed, but when he showed me how much the wheel moved when you applied a bit of pressure in a particular direction, I was convinced.

He told me the part would cost me a couple of hundred $$$, but that he thought he could "peen" the afflicted part and take most of the play out. He said C4's have some play normally, but that mine was a bit excessive.

I don't know if his "peening" actually cost me a dime, but if it did, it was very minimal....and I can definitely tell a difference in the play factor.

Probably doesn't help you much.....but that's my experience!

Good luck on yours!

I suspect that if the "peening" being discussed is related to the tilt pins being loose. I found a much more serious problem in my column. My tilt pins were tight, and the four "Torx" bolts were tight.

The casting at the base of the head that the four Torx bolts mount, was cracked! I was able to rebuild the cracked part, and added a reinforcing bracket to strengthen the casting, but the column had to come out of the car.

Well, I'm not sure if I have exactly the same problem as in this thread but it was the one that seemed to me most fitting.

I have a wobble in the steering wheel at certain speed, let's say at about 50-60 mph. Below that it's ok and above that it's getting better. I am pretty sure - at least I have that feeling - that it's coming form the front wheels somewhere, as not the
steering wheel itself is wobbling but the whole front of the car. I can see the hood vibrating then.

At first I thought it's about the tires or the balance wheigts but now I have new tires and they are freshly balanced. But the wobble issue persists

That's annoying.

Yes right, maybe I should let this be checked. If that can be a cause for the wobble.
