I have a1990 6 spd and my tach has quit functioning. The rpoblem probably is the tach filter needs to be replaced. My question is where is it located? Wha tdoes it look like. I have identified what I belive to be the tach lead coming of the distributor on the left side. It goes down behind the left cylinder and the firewall. What am I looking for and what does it look like. Where it it located? Be specific. thanks
Tach filter should be mounted to the rear left cylinder head. It's a small barrel shaped device about 1.5" long and about as round as a dime. It should have a tan lead leading to and from it. Below is a picture:
They have been discontinued from GM for some time now. Aside from buying a used one this guy makes new ones:
I E-mailed him about a tach filter for my '90 and he said the one listed on his site should be fine for all 'vettes up to '91. He is not a Corvette guru and was not sure of the year range for the L98. That is why his application chart only goes to '89.
I found the tach filter by tracing the lead wire from the distributor. Problem is I cannot acces it from above. Is it accessable from below, or do as it appears have to remove the distributor to gain access?
I seem to have an issue with my tach. I am going to try the tach filer. Problem is I went with an HSR so I don't have the same setup. In any case, I found a couple of wires that go from my distributor. One is pink and the other is white. It goes to my remote coil. Well, that white from the coil leads to a rectangular box. One white going in, one white going out and a black. Sounds like a tach filter to me. However, it is rectangular and not round like others are saying. Is that it?
