Mine has no clearance problems at all.
I don't have it tied down (it can't even move on it's own since its wedged in there) and for a while I didn't have the post caps on either. Never had any issues.
Maybe because i don't have it sitting exactly where it's supposed to go is why it doesn't have any clearance issues.

Mine's an 89 coupe.
I believe the clearance issues started in 1990. I had a 90 that had the same issues and now I drive a 91. So in theory if you have no issues in an 89. It must have happened along the way after the Atari dash change
I have a 93 coupe and for the Optima to fit I had to cut a notch in the brace. I realize this would not be acceptable to the originality purists, but I could always buy another bracket on the used parts market and no one would know the difference. I first tried to cut the post off for clearance and this worked, ( for clearance ). However I could not get consistent or ample power out of the side terminal after I did this. I finally discovered that the post is actually composed of an inner stud and an outer shell or concentric ring of lead and that the electrical flow to the side terminal depends on this mechanical bond within the post. Thus, cut the post off and you ruin the connection to the side terminal. This was a $120 lesson in how not to modify a battery. With a notch in the bracket the problem is solved and I am a believer in the advantages of the Optima.
I tried the Optima, ended up frying two batteries, lucky for my wallet Murrays took them back, even after I hacked off the top posts, so the thing would fit!
The third try, almost started my vette on fire. Never again. I went with a stock battery.
Optima should not state that their batteries work in later model C4 vettes. Cause they don't fit right.
On a good note, from this experience I can change out a battery quite quickly! Lots of practice.

So far I have been driving the car and the optima battery is still in the same place hasn't moved a bit so it seems like it is holding out with what I have done...
