but i just bought the vette about a week and half ago and have had it not want to shift on me two times the first being when i was leaveing work after not driving it allday it seemed to get into 2 or 3 and just hang there if i let off the gas the RPMS would drop like it was in N so i pulled over for about 20 mins with it off and then it acted like nothing happen but it's been haveing erractic shifts since then I.E ( i can't drive it casual or it shifts hard or holds onto the gear) and then this morning drove to the gas station fine i left it running will i got my coffe cam out went to get on the highway and it shifted into 2 and then just stayed at 5 RPMS so i turned around a babyed it home I drive 70 miles to work so i don't want to get stuck in oakland or in between if i don't have to but i've checked the fluid it reads good on the dipstick smells kinda bad but not sure if it's suppose to with the tranny fluid the car uses any help would be great and sorry so long winded plus my grammer and spelling are not the best at all i'm a grunt what can i say
The 95 has the 4L60E trans, fully electronic controlled shifting. Meaning there are no external adjustments to be made. Possibly a loose wiring connection and equally possible it just needs a fluid and filter change.

Wow I have the same problem with my car too it does the exact samething you described...I also put a new tps on my car, and had the tranny checked no problems, and I put new tranny fluid and filter in it and it still does the same thing I cant seem to pin point it either I know how you feel the car has a mind of its own it does the shift thing when it wants to, and other times it dont shift until like 5k rpms 110k miles here
Well after a week of havin the car she went bye-bye on a flatbed to the tranny shop i'll post what is found once they get around to fixing it
Do a search for threads by PeteK, our on line auto trans expert. Pete is a great guy and has helped a lot of people on this forum. He can give you some good advice, even how to 'harden' it, if a rebuild is necessary, to prevent future failures and maybe save you some money.
I'm new to vettes what is the TPS probaly something simple but i havent a clue what that is
Its not a Corvette specific item, its the Throttle Position Sensor. Tells the PCM where youve got your foot, which is part of how the PCM knows when to shift and what gear to select.

When my '94 auto started having similar issues at 92ishK, I had to have a rebuild done. My mechanic said that the stock auto trans lasts anywhere from 75K to 125K. It sounds like it might be your turn.
I had edcmat, supporting forum vendor, rebuild my transmission. Much better hard parts, bigger stall, etc. It rips shifts so much better than the stock trans ever did.
Have it checked out, it may be something minor or you may need a rebuild.
they start this monday on tearing it down 3 thrd gear was gone and the rest of the tranny was pretty mangled i guess someone drove it hard and never did any service to it i'm going down there monday and try and get some pics of the carnage

Not necessarily. The stock auto trans is pretty weak. A lot of them let go at the mileage you have. The 3-4 gears are usually the first to go, so I'm not surprised to read that about yours.
I drove mine hard but also had a trans cooler, flushed the fluid and used good fluid, and I still had to rebuild mine. It's just a matter of time.
But, anything is possible...wish cars could tell us what their previous owners don't...
Be sure to consult the builder about upgrades. The single cage sprags are junk, and you want to change it. There are a few other important upgrades that I always do.

How often did you change the fluid and filter though? Should be every 12,000 miles/20,000klms or 12 months, which ever comes first.

Yes, I am aware of the frequency of fluid changes...and did so...and again, I still needed a rebuild. Most people who know me know I take meticulous care of my vette.
Again, the stock auto trans is not bulletproof. Like I said, in talking to my area's best corvette mechanic, he said that they typically last from 75K to 125K miles. If the service is followed religiously, you may get the better end of it, but it is still a weak transmission and it will still end up letting go sooner or later.
I had mine rebuilt at 97K miles when it started slipping, but it was still running and getting into gear. I chose not to wait until it wouldn't run or get into gear at all. I also race my vette and wanted something stronger.
Having a rebuild with better internals is really the way to go...

Great! My car drives worlds better after the rebuild. It chirps gears nicely leaving stoplights, too.
I had the car tuned with the new trans immediately after its install by the same guy. He is a full service shop, and he did a wonderful job. Tightened the shift points and it runs great.
