I had a good one that cost me over $800.00 to fix. My mechanic had to relapce my antennea for the 3rd time last month.( HE TOLD ME THEY WERE BEING MADE IN CHINA, AND HE HAD A LOT OF THEM FAIL). Several weeks after it was in my wife and I went for a ride last weekend and the radio died and the antenna would not retract. When I got home I found the # 15 breaker blown so i went out got a new one and when I tried to put it in I got a flash.
I called my Mecahnic on Monday and dropped the Car off the next day.
He had it for a whole week. He said the new antenna was fried, nothing worked on that circuit. He said there were 3 ground shorts and my heating/AC unit was not wroking properly.
I found a used Heat/AC unit on Ebay had it shipped over night and it was installed; it works great.
But here is my main concern after one week and $800.00 later he told me he did not know where the shorts were but the problem was fixed except that he has to get another antenna. Now I am not an electrician but how the heck can you not find 3 ground shorts, but yet the system is back up and working?
makes me feel like I am getting ripped off and this can happen again
Hugh
Sounds like your mechanic is changing parts to TRY and fix the problem instead of fixing the problem.
Do you have any of the old ones that he took off? It would be interesting to see IF they are really bad. I would hook them to a batt and see if they work before I would buy another one. I would also think that if anything it is just the relay on the antenna. I do believe that you can replace just the relay.

I am an electrician, and if I fixed machinery like this guy the company would be out of business.
The mecahic owns his shop, been in buisness for about 20 years. He told me the relay on the antenna was fried and will have to get a new antenna, I will not have to pay for it. He did not repalce any parts except the heather/ac unit. I saw the bad parts in it, the control unit had mechanical problems.
No other equipment was repalced. He had one of his mecahnics trying to find what shorted out. I saw t what he did and most of the dash was pulled apart. When his Mechanic could not solve the problem he took over.
I just feel like I got ripped off when a man who has over 20 years working on Corvettes tells me he does not know how he fixed the car. He could not tell me where the gound shorts were or as he called them shorts to ground.
Anyone know of a good corvette mecahnic in or around Flint MI.
Thanks,
Hugh
