'92 LT1 left me stranded...

yesterday I was driving my Corvette for a few miles, when all of a sudden the engine died. It did not restart, the starter itself was working fine, just not firing up. Tank 3/4 full.
Had to call my wife to pick me up, get ol' Volvo wagon and trailer and collect Corvette.
I sprayed some starter fluid into the throttle body while cranking, but nada, zilch.
Today the beast started up fine as if nothing had happened, damn.
I pulled the codes, nothing.
Due to no reaction to the starter fluid, I assume the problem was ignition related. But which component could be the culprit? Ignition coil? Ignition module? Optispark??
All ideas appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Stefan
Hadn't changed the fuel filter, and suspected fuel pump. Pulled pump and the strainer had been sucked up into the pump! Pulled the filter and couldn't blow thru it! The new filters have almost no resistance. Put them all back and it runs great, actually better than before. Oh and by the way I was getting a "Check Engine Light" and no codes???
Disconnect both supply & return hoses at the fuel pump before replacing the filter, or it will siphon gas constantly, and pick up 3 fuel filter "O" rings at the dealer, one for either side of the filter and one for the returen line, that you'll need to remove for access ressons.
thanks all for your suggestions. I could rule out fuel supply when it happended last time.
I bought a new ignition module today and installed it.
Engine fired up from cold but idle was so low that the engine died. I had to rev her up until she warmed up a little, then she held (a somewhat low) idle speed. After warm up everything was fine. I drove her a little bit, got the engine up to 104° C and all was fine.
Will try again tomorrow to see what's up with the cold idle speed.

seems that the ignition module was the reason for the breakdown. After replacement I've driven about 100 mls now under various conditions and she performed flawlessly. The cold start idle has been okay now also, but now I sense an oily smell after the car has been driven for a while. Have to investigate this before something nasty happens!
There's another problem with the fans not coming on with high engine temps (they work fine in diagnostic mode) perhaps I'm just too nervous to let her get that hot!
