I want to pull my Bose unit and send it off to get the CD repaired but I have NO clue how to get it out.... also has anyone dealt with Doctor Don's in Texas ?.... All help is greatly appreciated....
I would replace it with something aftermarket. I had a Bose rebuilt a few years ago and it ended up failing again. :mad Got smart and replaced it all. As far as removing it, just pull off the trim piece around it, 2 screws on each side and unplug it from the back. good luck.:)
Hey JPLT1, when you say just pull off the trim piece around the radio, are there any screws or clips or anything, or do you just pull and it releases by itself?
Thanks
You'll need to open the console door. There will be two screws holding down the shift console cover, there will also be one under the ashtray. Pull the shift console cover back some and you should see more screws. I think you will have to remove the air conditioner vent above the radio and DIC to get to a couple more. There may be more I'm working of off memory.
I may edit this with more info as I will be taking mine apart to install an aftermarket head unit which arived today. Not sure if I will get to it tonight or next week. I'll see how the mood strikes me :)
In any event don't pull so hard to break anything. But there may be clips in there along the sides, where the radio is. I can't remember.
I'm new to this forum and to Corvettes. I just bought My first. It's a 93 I am having the same problems as so many people who are posting so I'm learning alot. I just pulled my Bose radio out because the CD is not working. There are 2 screws under the carpet in the center console and 1 under the ashtray. You don't need to totally remove the shift cover. There are 2 more screws to remove inside the center air vent. Take that out. Then you can get to the 4 screws on the sides of the radio. Pull it foreward and reach your hand behind the radio and unplug the 2 wire harness plugs and pull the radio out. I found it very simple and I'm not really mechanically inclined. I sent it out to a place in New York State and they said the turn around time is 2 to 3 days. They said they repair it to factory specs for $195 plus shipping. I believe the name of the place is United Radio. They give you a 1 year warranty. If you need the phone number let me know. :seeya
If this is for your '96, there may be differences. The dash and center console were slightly modified in '94 from what me and the other guys have. As long as you're careful, stuff should come out easily. Jay is right about ours. You have two in the console under the carpet in the front corners of the console, one under an ashtray. This will free up the panel around the shifter. Then you remove the vent (two screws) above the radio and remove the screw under the vent. Then there are two screws in the bottom revealed when the panel around the shifter is removed. I also unhook the hatch release and cigarette lighter and rotate the panel on the shifter to make it easy to remove the radio panel. Last there are two clips holding the panel to the dash. Pull carefully so you don't bend them badly. As I said yours might be different. If you pull on something and it just feels locked in place at an area, it probably has another screw. Chevy liked to hide them behind things as you can tell from this description so you might have to dig. After that, you can unbolt the deck easily. I would go new instead of spending $100 to have the 20 year old Bose/Panasonic CD fixed.

i'm working on a website now trying to outline a step-by-step of what i did. the site isn't even close to being done yet, but here's the link which has some pics.
I'm gonna take my Bose System out and trash that junk also. I can't believe that a car this nice has a piece of poopie system in it like that. Oh well. :mad :smash: :smash: :cuss
