I've got a 91' and the idle is too high, in gear its alittle over 1000 and because of that when your at a stop light its frustrating becuase you have to keep putting the car in neutral or hold your foot on the break really hard. It wants to go.
The shop manual i have is a crummy Hanes book but they say you cannot adjust the idle. How can i correct this problem? I just bought the car about 2 months ago so i dont know the history. Help please!
Thanks a ton in advance.
Clean your idle air control. Then reset your idle.
To reset your idle:
Depress the accelerator slightly.
START and RUN the engine for five seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF for ten seconds.
Restart the engine and check for proper idle operation.
Get a factory servcie manual. It's a life saver. I've done it a few times and it's pretty easy. Use the "Other Tab" and go to tech tips, it has detailed instructions on an IAC reset. I can't stress the warmed up operating temperature comment enough. I finally got it right after I warmed it up and then proceeded with the procedure..Oh also if you have to replace the IAC, TPS or any sensor I suggest using GM Delco stuff. The non oem parts didn't do the trick, it took the oem parts to get the results I was after.
