Default 1987 valve covers

Is there a decent replacement that anyone would recommend? the stock brown ones are rather disappointing when you open the hood. its really the only thing thats turned me off about the car since i bought it.

The stock VCs look beautiful after they have been cleaned, sanded and repainted...

Did mine >6yrs ago and they still look great.

The covers turning brown over the years is common as the covers are a magnesium alloy and heat and oils cause that discoloration. You could paint them or powdercoat them but they will clean up with glass beading and look very nice. Mid-America has paint that duplicates the factory color.

The badge on the driver's side cover is probably not made anymore and would be hard to come by (if not expensive) so be careful removing it should you decide to clean the factory covers.

Restoring the original covers isnt a bad idea. i dont know why, but that had never even crossed my mind.

Those Edelbrock covers are pretty sweet!

The emblems are available from Eckler's, I believe, around $45 or so.
