Hey Guys! The electronic climate control in my '89 is doing the light show routine where EVERYTHING is flickering making it impossible to tell the set temp or what function is currently operating. I understand this is common on these units. If I press the outside temp buttom or even apply pressure to the screen around the temp button it will usually clear it up after several times. It is much more persistent when the car is cold. All the functions operate properly at all times. I have found numerous "how to" articles pertaining to fixing a cold solder condition that developes in later models but no info for one as old as mine. If anyone knows how to fix one of these please let me know. I will need pictures to identify what you are talking about because I am stupid. Is my unit considered a C68 electronic control unit? Thanks a bunch!
Does no one know how to tinker on these or is it strickly a replacement item? If someone can tell me if it is considered a C68 electronic climate control I found a site on rebuilding them.
Yup, it's called C68 electronic blower controls. the ecc system has a built-in diagnostic mode that you check for system problems. I went through this already. My cure was a another controller! good luck
ps. i have my old one still. got a link to the rebuild site?
If you search "C68 Electronic climate control" it should come up as one of the first listings. I read it again and it's not as in depth as I origionally thought. It deals primarily with which solder joints to resolder if the unit is suffering from cold joints and some of the functions are not working. Fortunately, mine still works good, the constant blinking is just stupid.
Bought my first Vette, an '87, little over a week ago...and nothing about the air/heat works. In fact, most of the time, she blows an unbidden gentle warm breeze at my ankles.
I figure I got her at just the right time to fix these problems: the weather is turning cooler and quite pleasant. The fact remains that winter is around the corner, and my car is a driver; I need to fix these problems. I haven't yet had anyone look at her to attest to what is causing trouble to the heat/air and electronics display.
Is this too vague, or can someone let me know is these problems are common to the '87s...and are easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive to fix? ...please?

I think the panel for your '87 is the same as my '89 and the cheapest exchange I have found was $299 on Ebay. The dealer actually has these now for, I think, $399 exchange but I believe these are just the control panel and not the entire circuit board that the panel attaches to.

I went through this problem on the C68 in my 89 vert. All of the lights went berserk, and cleaning the contacts didn't help at all. I couldn't find anyone selling replacement head units for verts, only coupes. I called Jason at Vette2Vette since he's always been first class when I've needed used parts. He didn't have one in stock, but arranged for me to send it to a rebuilder he uses. It took a little while, but everything has been great since it came back.
I have a used controller C68/C49 that fits '86-89. It was working when it came out of my '86 3-4 years ago. It is a remanufactured unit that I bought from a Chevy dealer in the late 90's. The part number on it is 01228824 and serial is AB94232
Will sell for $75.00 plus shipping
