Chrome done right can last a really long time. Chrome done cheaply can start to peel off after a few years. When chrome fails, it is way worse than when paint fails. For one it looks much worse, and for two the chrome peels back and is incredibly sharp. It can peel and cut through the valve stem, cut your hands, etc. And it's hard to remove the peels cleanly. Paint will just flake off and look crummy.
As far as looks, personally I think chrome looks like crap on C4's. The body style is more muscular, not blingy. On black ones, and sometimes white, it can look ok, but personally I don't think chrome belongs on the C4. But different strokes...

I'm a Vet COP and NOT A DPOE-DEALER/DOPE-RUNNER. I like my Chrome ZR-1 rims (correct offset for a 1987). I have 17x9.5 front and 17x11 rear wheels.
Some people are 'OLD-SCHOOL' and like Chrome without being dope-dealers or thugs.
