Recently my beloved HOA sent around flyers asking the residents to donate money for new "speed humps" as they call them.

As you might imagine my reply wasn't positive.

I think they were saying it would cost $250 per hump.

The humps never went in.

I don't always remember how low I am till I hear the scraping or the thud. The grade differences when you have to go over a sidewalk to enter a parking lot can be a PIA. I drive several vehicles so it's easy to forget. I just have to remember to approach at an angle dammit.

I had to ask a friend who is kind of heavyset, to hop out for a sec when I got hung up on one in Lowes parking lot.
Probably rude to do, but hell, this is my vette!

My mother's condo installed some last year, and probably put eight of them in a 1/8 mile (if that) stretch. Two would have been sufficient, but the blue hairs got their way...

I feel your pain man.

Just got back from my first real roadtrip (Phx to Las Vegas & back) in my lowered '96. The highway stuff was great BUT the city driving sucked. All the parking garages w/ speed bumps, dips etc...I was in hell!

I'll never forget the first time I hit a dip leaving a parking garage a little too fast - I'm thinking it was the cross brace on the vert, but whatever the gawdawful noise was, I never want to hear it again.

Sadly, I have a speed dip at the end of my driveway. If I'm not very careful, the front spoiler scccrrrrapes every time I go in and out.

It's worse to bottom out, of course, but the hazards to a low car come from both.

Regards,
Hal

If most folks obeyed the law speed bumps would not be needed.
Most folks don't need a speed bump to obey the law but for those few who do the bumps slow them down.

The City of Toronto installs speed humps that can be traversed over by my vette with the greatest of ease. These things are wide and long and really defeat their own purpose. When a vehicle finishes traversing over the hump the rear lands and make a loud "THUMP". The roads break up and cave in . They are actually FUN to drive over in a Corvette. They do nothing to slow vehicles down. In fact the cars that do slow down actually release more pollution into the air then if they had been left alone, since the operator must depress the gas thru a stop and go.

We have some nasty speedbumps around here. I've seen some that must be 7-8 inches tall. Although I've never had a problem with scraping the Vette, but it makes me worry like hell that I will crack the lip on my Z when I go over them. Not that it matters anymore.

I hate speed bumps! The speed "tables" on the other hand are a piece of cake (and a waste of taxpayer money)

Yea? let me tell ya, speed bumps are nothing compared to a concrete curb when you are un-intentionally drifting

My parent's just voted YES in their HOA to have them added to their neighborhood.

Friggin pissed me off. I chewed them out for that dumb decision. Instead of punishing a few speeding kinds, they punished themselves and the entire neighborhood. After the speeding people are long gone, those dumb speed humps will be there forever

In my 8 1/2 foot tall 6,000lb+ 1 ton van.......speed bumbs.......what are those??????

I try not to drive through parking lots up close to the store (where those evil little bass turds reside around here). Luckily none of the neighborhoods around me have the bumbs or humps to deal with so it's not really a problem. I do have to take it easy pulling into my driveway though. My parents house.......have to come in at about a 45 degree angle so as not to scrape at any speed.
