I just remember doing the paperwork, having my dad co-sign since my credit was not high enough at the time, and then driving it home.
The gas tank was EMPTY
and it was missing the targa tool. They gave me one from another car so I popped the top, filled it up and drove to EVERYONE's house I could think of to show it off LOL. I think I put over a hundred miles or so the first evening I had it just driving around town. What a good feeling!

Shut the car off, popped the hold, and it was the valve covers leaking oil on the exhaust headers. Salesdude poiints that out, says "we'll fix that, no problem".
Drove back to the car lot, owner of the lot sees us, comes outta the building, and yells at salesdude, "That car hasn't been inspected yet, it's not for sale!". 30 minutes later, I was driving the thing home. Replaced the gaskets the same day, engine was perfect.

I had just nixed the purchase of a Porsche 944S2 which was not what the guy claimed on EBAY, and so was still looking to replace my painfully slow 1988 RX-7 Vert. I saw an ad for a 1993 6-speed with 84K for $11K and called the owner for a test drive. I told my wife "I need to see what 300HP feels like." She responded "why bother; you are not a Vette person."
I was impressed when I arrived to see the owner pulling off the car cover with the vehicle parked in his garage on a carpet. I had never seen anything like that before so I suspected that this car had been well cared for. It was no garage queen, but looked really nice for the miles.
The drive was great. I was a bit nervous not to upset the owner (who went with me) so he eventually said: "Go ahead and have some fun." I did. The car did everything really well, everything worked, squeeks and rattles were very minor, and the kick in the butt from the LT1 was awesome (of course I, like everyone else, have come to want more
). Overall, a much better driving experience than I expected it to be. I went home and told my disbelieving wife I was going to buy the Vette I had just driven! Truly a snap decision and somewhat emotional, but I've not regretted my choice at all over the last 30 months of ownership. My wife -- I'm not so sure. But it's not the first or last of my cars that she won't love

Having never driven a vette before (and riden in only a couple of 'em for short stints), the first time to drive one was when I sat down in mine (after getting the paperwork) and firing it up for the drive from Tampa back to Ft. Worth (1,300 mile is one heck of a test drive
).Car was in the family..........soooooooo...........new it had been well taken care of..........but still was kind of spooky. Kind of like one of the other big "firsts" in life......you know it's going to be fun and feel good, but not real sure how long the feeling will last.
When it's all over, wanted to jump right back in and do it again (talking about the test drive of course!!!!!!!).
Ok, maybe not just about the vette..........but that's for another time and place)

and that was all I needed to know it was going home with me that day.I wasn't even planning on buying a Vette for another, probably 6 months. I talked myself into seeing what financing I weas approved for. I was surprised at what they offered, so I, with the help of a coworker talked myself into going to look at it. I inspected it, looked it over, told myself I would not buy it that day! I wound up putting a deposit down on the car that night and called them back within 48 hours and had then do up the papers. Signed them on Friday, drove it of the lot on Saturday morning.
Test drive was at night. I didn't even get into full throttle. Probably between 1/2 and 2/3 throttle was enough to sell me on the car. The torque of the L98 is very nice, especially since I hadn't driven a V-8 in a while. I pretty much knew trying to talk myself out of buying this car wasn't going to work.
BTW, I paid $1400.00 for it.

Needless to say I was careful with it and only took it for a 15 min joyride, but I put it through its paces in that short time though
