running rich???
Well, it's been a great end of season!!! I just finished repairing a power steering fluid leak, then the alternator goes. I replace that, and then wonder what I can do about my baby running so rich. Any suggestions???? It has been running rich for quite a while (at least 2 years), but seem to be getting a little worse lately. Performance wise, mileage wise, everything seems fine. No codes. I replaced the plugs and wires last year, along with the O2 sensor. The tailpipes have the telltale black soot on them. Rub your finger lightly, and your blackened. Oil consumption is nil. Where can I start???

ECM is programmed to pulse the injectors so that fuel is burned at a 14.7 to 1 ratio. The only way to know what it's doing is to scan it. Do that, and it will give you all the info you need to fix it if it isn't right.
Get an ALDL connector and scan with Datamaster. This way you know exactly whats going on.

A scan tool is great to have with a situation like this. It could be many things causing it. How do you know it's rich, beside the black sut at the mufflers?
Does it smell rich?
How old is the cat?
What do the spark plugs look like?
Have you ohmed the injectors hot and cold?
Changed the air filter lately?
Any stored codes?
