Default Help Needed

Hello All,

last week I purchased a 1986 automatic for $4,000. The car seems stock, so my question is with my budget of $3,000 what should I look at doing.

Note: Interior is pretty much trashed, and the gauge cluster has some issues.

I am interested to here your opinions/advice.

Thanks

I was going to say the exact same thing. Make it driveable, make it dependable and enjoy it. When you've got a couple more bucks in your pocket, then you can start playing with intakes and exhaust systems and a hundred other mods all designed to drain your wallet. Why do I say that? Want to put on an intake system, gotta do an exhaust. Wanna put a thumpity, thumpity cam in it, gotta do the intake and exhaust. Wanna run 13's...do this. Wanna run 12's...add more cash. Wanna go fast enuf to scare yourself? Start printing money in your basement! Have fun...enjoy the ride

Interior could run in excess of 1k..put your effort and $$ on getting it road ready and enjoy it for awhile..Then mod the crap out of it

Oh Yeah..Welcome to the Madness

Definately fix the interior and exterior, then modify it for more HP, if speed is your goal. Because mine is a DD I don't have to race around to turn a few heads but it sure is pretty to look at.

Yes, if the car is not running well, by all means fix that first, and if you want to do the interior on a budget, you can buy fairly inexpensive man made materials for the seats that will look and wear nicely, clean the carpet real good, get new mats, armor all the dash..and you'll be amazed how well these cars will clean up.

last but not least...upgrades to the motor...if track speed is what your after...ya bought the wrong car. However the L-98 will go from 0-60 pretty damn fast...in the 5 second range, so stop light to stop light...
the cars pretty quick.

Yea i'm sure there are newer cars out there that can mop you up, but your car is 21 years old....ya need to compare apple to apples, remember 245 HP is not alot these days...but then again ya dont have alot of weight to lug around either. I give the hole shot 90% of the time to the corvette!

Good Luck
