wish I had that problem--I'd love some low gear fun, but the only thing I've been able to drum up over the last 3 months was new 350Z automatic-ate that thing for breakfast in first gear-didn't need to go anymore. No one wants to play. Car is a 95 6 spd LT1: previous owner indicates no mods, and everything 'looks' stock and hasn't been touched underneath for years. State emissions inspection in June = passed with flying colors, but this particular car runs exceptionally well-not sure if the ECM was tuned

Nah, I kind of doubt it. Thats just how quick they feel especially if you recently got her...........
I'm tickled S-less to have made it to age 50. Thinking back how many times as a kid I did dumb crap draggin' and such and came away unscathed, its a miracle. If I was to do it all again, well, forget that idea. I'm just happy to tell some tales around the fire with the buddies that survived and a few beers to boot.

You drive a vette and don't have anything to prove to anybody. At the light I just sit there for a second, let them screech away and then pull away slowly. When you do this you're giving them no satisfaction, there is no bragging rights for them if you don't find them worthy to compete with. As irritating as some can be on the road, I've had many younger people compliment my vette, a lot of them just like the car and aren't bad, even the rice burner crowd. They are car guys too.
Not quite a race or corvette story, but fresh in my mind. Last weekend while visiting FL I was riding my motorcycle with my GF on the back and a ricer flew by me and the passenger threw a soda can out the sunroof at me. 10-15 years ago I would have kicked in the passenger door, age tempers your response long enough to let rational thought prevail.
I still might play through first gear, but considering the consequences of street racing it really isn't worth it.
If they crawl up my rear end I just go slower in town. If they do it on the freeway I just pull over to the slower lane, look over, grin, wave, and keep the crusie on 75. Just pisses 'em off that I ignore their simpleton games. Later I watch and wave as I pass them while they are sitting on the roadside in front of blue lights, even more pissed off.
In North Carolina, street racing= automatic 1 year suspension. pre staged (beep, beep, beep) = 1 year suspension, with the state becoming the new owner of your car. the pimple face rice burner may have a 400 hp ride, but he does not have a Corvette, and if he keeps doing what he is doing, he probably never will.
While not condoning. I will say street racing causes very low injuries and deaths.
# In 1999, the Florida Department of Highway and Safety for Motor Vehicles reported 28 accidents related to illegal street racing, with 2 fatalities and 27 injuries. In 2000, the agency reported 39 racing accidents, with 1 fatality and 55 injuries. In 2002, there were 48 racing accidents, 1 fatality, and 60 injuries.
vs. drunk driving. Again in Florida: 1999; 1,139 fatalities. 2000; 1,277 fatalities. 2002; 1,279 fatalities. That isn't showing the thousands of other accidents that were not fatal.
But people are still on the street driving after 2, 3, even 4 DUI's.
Street Racing is a fluffy media drool fest, its easy to point the fingers, and get the public outcry, for something that isn't even really a problem.
I give them as much room as possible and let them pass. It just isn't worth it. Besides, most of them can't drive. When I was a kid I reacted differently. I'm either getting older or smarter.
I'm really not in the right financial situation to bolt on an extra 200 horses worth of stuff!
Are you in a financial position to pay a hefty fine and get 2 points on your license.Insurance goes up...it just isnt worth it to react to every bottom feeder that wants to challenge you.
In the right place,at the right time,on the right day they could get dealt with but you should pick your battles.

I do ride, and to this day if someone was to toss something at me, they are going to be in a world of hurt. That's crossing the line.
