Wifey got an 86 conv two days ago. I get to fix stuff..... It needs a new rear "window" and it looks like the whole top comes with it. EBay sellers are listing their fabric as: HAARTZ STAYFAST CLOTH, HAARTZ VINYL, STAYFAST CLOTH....
Anybody buy a top from any of these guys, and what did you think of the match to what came off the car? What did GM use for these tops?
I don't know about these ebay guys as such, but I did just put out a thread about cloth vs vinyl. Take a look at it (it is several below this one in the general section). There are a couple of links there to good cheap tops.
Do What I Did When I Needed A Top. I Called A Chevy Dealership, And Asked Who Does Your Upholstery Work. I Called Two Dealerships, And Than Went Asked Them What They Recommend In Tops, Asked All The Questions, Cause They No Answers. I Had One Them Replace Mind, And Install The Conversion Kit For The Rear Window To Be Glass, Cause Had Done It Before And New What To Do, If Done Wrong Will Break Rear Window Cause It's Now Glass. It Has Rear Defroster Working. I Will Say One Thing About The Glass Rear Window Which Could Be Problem Is That When The Top Is Down You Loose Your Storage Room Cause The Top Has To Fold A Certain Way. There Is Still Enough Room For Cooler, Cleaning Supplies And Little Etc. Please Remember When You Put Things In A Corvette You Should Use Soft Bags.
After The Top Is Done And You Bought Rag, Which I Think Looks Better Use A Product Called Raggtop.

although...I would not hesitate to use Al Knoch. I've seen some fantastic work done by Al and personally used them on the seats for my C5. First class work and material. I know I'm going to use him on my 98.
