storage with battery tender

Excuse the question, but is it ok to cover the battery and battery tender, with the hood down and with a car cover.(winter storage) The directions say to have in a ventilated area. Will the fumes from the battery affect the car cover? or the pant while under a Wolfe cover

I just put my battery tender on top of a plastic pail turned upside down by the left front wheel and run the leads thru the opening by the suspension, close the hood, no problem.
