As usual, on C4s, the antenna on my 94 sticks when going up or down. I do not use the radio and only play CDs. What is the easiest way to keep it in the down position?
If you look up from underneath the antenna, you'll see it's somewhat easy to get to. If there's a plug to the up and down power mechanism, un-plug it. If not......................you could cut the wires and protect the ends or install plugs.
Have you tried putting a little silicone on a rag and wiping the antenna while its extended?
The antenna onm my 94 does not fully compress, it fully extends but goes down and stops leaving about 10 inches still extended. If I pull the antenna and then genlty push it down, it will completely collapse. The next time I turn the radio on and then off it extends and retracts leaving about 10 inches still out.
I pulled the mast and ribbon cable expecting to have to replace the unit but the cable is not missing any teeth nor is it broken. The motor seems to be working fine.
Is there a way to "reset" the downward travel length for the motor?
I have a 92 convertible. I unplugged the connector under the carpet of the rear cargo area, over the wheel well, on the drivers side. Not sure on the coupe. If I recall, I think there may have been 2 connectors there. They were quite large and had more connections than I would have expected.
For 03blackburb, some of the cable could be broken and stuck in the motor. That is the issue with mine. It did the same thing you are describing. The motor would have to come out, to get the broken cable part out, before new antenna could be installed. I decided just to diconnect it. It looks better without the antenna sticking up any, IMO. Still gets some local stations if needed.
I pulled the motor and checked it, it is the model that is GLUED together. Is there any way to tell ifthere is a broken piece of cable sutck in the motor?
If it push the mast down, or pull then push down it WILL go all the way down. THen when turing on the radio or car, it does extend out completely.
I have also wiped the mast sections off and added a few drops of clean lube.
I bought a replacement mast, and the instructions said that when you pull the old mast out, make sure the cable of the old one is the same length as the new one. If it's not, then some is still in the motor, and will have to be removed before installing the new one. Mine was short, so I'm assuming some is still in there, but I have not taken it out to confirm. The exposed part of the cable of the new one is 36.5 inches long, that is the exposed part of the cable, outside the mast. Hope that helps.
I've got a 94 LT1 that the antenna doesn't go all the way down. I've asked this question several times and haven't gotten an answer. I've got the replacement mast sitting on the counter in the shop. The shop manual and the directions that come with the replacement mast say to remove the old antenna.
Only problem is, the old antenna has the same little collar the new antenna has. It holds the antenna body from coming out of the housing. My question is-- do you just pull the old mast out and hope the collar all comes out, or do you smash the old mast and then try to get the collar out?
The directions say to "gently pull the old mast out". Well, the old collar ain't gonna come out gently.
The replacement antenna I got came with a little tool to remove the mounting nut that holds the antenna in place. There are two flat spots on the mounting nut for grip, if you are going to try and use your own tools. I wouldn't muscle it.
Well. I measured and measured again. Total length on my mast and ribbon cavle is 46.75 inches.
The cable is clean and the mast sections are clean and not sticking.
Any other ideas?
The antenna has been not been going down since I have had her, year and a half.
As for temps, summers over 100 and winters get cold with a few days with lows in the 30's. Temps don't seem to be a problem.
