I have been searching ebay looking for some rims to put snow tires on for my 85. Its my daily driver and not planning on storing for winter.
Trying to find a suitable wheels, about 16x6 or 6.5. what factory rims from other cars might fit or does GM have a steel wheel about that size. I looked on ebay for camaro or firebird rims, found one close, was 16x7.5. Just trying to find a steel or aluminum rim narrow to make this go thru the snow this winter.
Thanks for any info, with winter knocking on the door now, need to get ready.
If the narrower wheels from a Camaro or Firebird will fit bolt pattern and clearance go for it. A narrower tire will be better in slush and snow than a wide performance tire.
I think that the 4th Generation Camaro wheels are a slightly different offset than the 4th Generation Firebird wheels. The firebird wheels make stick out a little further if I remember correctly. Figure out which offset would be better for your car.
Try to find some 1982-1990s chevy s10 or gms sonoma wheels
(steal 15 " wheels). You should be able to find some winter tires that will fit them very easy, id go 15 by 215's, i wouldnt go much wider but its your choice.

Reason: spelling
Ask Tire Rack for their recommendations, their usually pretty good and have both wheels and tires. I run all snows on my Z/28 for winter and it's like day and nite. Wish I'd started out that way when I got her.
Buy a winter junker for the same price you'd spend on tires. All you need is something that runs and has a good heater. Sell it in the spring.
That's a good sugestion. If the roads get really bad, it's more comforting to think that if you have to go off-roading because of extremely slick roads, the Vette won't take undue punishment.
Also, the front air dam on the Vette sits pretty low to the ground. Drive around in 6" of fresh snow and that air dam will act like a snow plow. It will force snow up into the opening for the radiator and cut off the flow of air for engine cooling. And there is no way that you can safely run tire chains on a Vette
Find a cheap Subaru Outback wagon or something similar. Even a 4WD pickup with a couple hundred pounds of dirt in the bed will work fine. Just add liability insurance to it and you should be good to go (in the snow)

Winter beaters are not cheap anymore, and plus here in nothern ohio we have emission testing and junkers seldom pass unless money is invested to get it to pass.
as for 15" wheels they will not fit over the brakes on my 85, I have a set from an old camaro, so i need 16 inch.
