i have been going through 1 alternator a year, i brought to c what was wrong but no one can find any thing! it doesn't cost me anything but 20 minutes of my time putting the new one on.... has any one gone through this problem????? :smash:
Heh... welcome to the world of Corvette alternators... there is "nothing" wrong except for the poor design of them. Some thing to avoid is letting the battery get low and have the alternator try and charge it. If you drain the battery, put a charger on it. Some remans are better then others also.
My GM rebuilds last about 5 years. I don't use lots of electrical loads when I drive, so maybe thats why my alternators last, that and I open my hood when I get home to cool the engine fast. Of course, my last vette , a 74, the original alternator lasted 214,000 miles and was still working fine when I sold it. Should have transferred it to my 87, but it was only a 35 amp alt.
yeah, say if you have a big stereo system, that is a big load on the alternator
there really not even that hard to rebuild yourself, but then again you prolly dont have an alternator test machice laying around
also check the capacity on your battery, make sure you have the correct battery in there, also make sure that no water is getting to them.............
