My 95 convertible's rear glass is seperating from the top at top side ,they say i have to buy a whole new top to repair. Anyone found a repair short of replacement???
I have a 94 and mine has done the same. To temporarily hold it in place I line the parts where it was coming apart with some very strong glue. Its been over a month and still seems to be holding. I usually keep it open though so I cant say how long it would last if I was constantly opening and closing it.
Here is a suggestion: Call your local Chevy dealer, the more the better. Then ask them who does there tops. Now call them, and tell them your problem. The honest one will tell you they can repair it. The others will tell you replacement. It can be glued with the right upholstery shop. My cousin had his re glued for reasonable price, and he lives in the North with cold weather. He had it done two years ago, and it's holding.
The back glass started to seperate in my 95 in 2001. Since the top was still in great shape, my dad and I used some type of adhesive. I believe it was weatherstrip adhesive. It's been 6 years and the glass is still as it was when we put it back in. The top is getting to where it's time to replace it, but I can't believe it's held this long.
The factory has to have a way to attach the rear window, so someone else should be able to reattach, seems logical...
That was my first thought also but when mine fell out I kept looking at it. There appeared to be something that was part of the glass that looked almost like it was woven into the threads. Anyone else see something similar? I think it was a black strip or somehting. I may be wrong, it's been a few years since it happened.
