If your battery checks out fine, it's probably the starter. Mine started the click routine, with a new battery, and I ignored it for a week or two. Then, one morning I fired it up to go to work, and the starter stuck in the engaged position, and the thing just cranked and cranked, even with the key removed! I had to disconnect the battery to get it to quit-I'm glad it happened at home where I had access to tools, because by the time I got it stopped, the starter and battery cables were quite hot.
Moral of the story-if the battery checks out, look at the starter right away!
Hope this helps.....

Thanks everyone. My battery is pretty new (Optima 5 months old). I only drive the car on weekends so I don't know how that is affecting the battery. I will check the connections and check the battery with my charger.
Battery?? Sounds more like the tell-tale signs of the starter on it's way out. Easy way to tell if it's your battery or the starter, turn your headlamps on next time it happens and try to start the car, if the headlights dim out to almost nothing, then it's most likely the battery... if they stay bright it's the starter.

What he said. Experienced the same condition and it was the starter. My LT-1 was starter was big bucks at the dealer, so I opted to have it rebuilt for $91. Runs like a champ, and that was over a yeaer ago. :yesnod:
I'd check the battery first. For some reason mine has a little gremlin in there where the car will do this occasionally. Mine was fuse related. Check to see that they are all firmly seated. Then, take the car to AutoZone and they'll check the charging system for you.
If it is the starter and you want new, seek out carfan18 on these forums... (Jeff Kopp) He's the parts manager for a large Chevy dealer and gives great discounts to forum members... I replaced my LT1 stater a couple of weeks ago and it was 159 through him. Best I could do on a reman was 139.00
I had my light on today and tried starting the car. I got the "click" sound while the lights stayed bright. I tried again and the car started while the lights dimmed a little. Is the starter bad?
