I'm curious how to tell if shocks are in need of replacement or not. My 95 still has what i believe to be the factory bilsteins on it. The car does not float or anything, but it sure doesnt like bumps in the road. This is my first vette so im not sure of how it should feel being a sportscar with understandably tight suspension anyways. I just dont want to buy new shocks if mine are doing what they should be doing?????
Thanks

remove one of them. The fronts are the easiest to remove. Then see how easy it is to push it in and pull it back out. My 90 had the factory shocks when I bought it and you could play them like an accordion. They were shot.
Can they be checked the traditional way? You know, pushing down on every shock location. If the car bounces more than a couple of times, shocks are not ok.
Before I did mine the rear view mirror would fall down with each bump. I think at the time it had around 80k on them. The new shocks(bilsteins) made a big difference I no longer have to slow down for RR crossings.
I'd guess my car has original shocks, it has 75k on it, and the shocks look like they've been their a while. I'm not a racer, what's a good shock for an 87 coupe to give a good ride?

Get the Bilsteins. I put them on my 87 FE1 and the car stopped bottoming out.
How does it feel in the seat? Any difference? Smoother? Holds better?
With broken shocks the car would bottom out on bumps and lean a lot in corners. The front wheels would make contact with the inside of the wheel wells. I didnt know the shocks were bad until I removed them and tried to compress them by hand. The broken shocks were not Bilstein and were only a few years old.

I put Bilsteins on my 87 coupe DD. The originals had almost 90k on them so I figured it was about time. I haven't noticed a lot of difference but feel better knowing they have been replaced.
