Default thermostat question

Hey guys i m in the process of changing the water pump, and the opti, plugs & wires on my 93. Would it be a good idea to go ahead and change the thermostat too? Also i have read alot of post on the 180 or 190 thermostat which one did it come with from the factory? also whats the pros and cons for each? Thanks guys!

I would, it just makes sense to do so and the cost is minimal. A lot of debate on which heat range to use. If I was to choose the 180 would be fine for me vs. the 195. It’s a matter of where you located geographically. 195 if you get snow and like the heater to work sooner or the 160 you don’t get any snow and don’t need heat. GC

Check my post about thermostats. I paid $3.75 for 192 deg. For parts avoid dealers and go to the local part store if possible.

No, it's NOT a normal small block chevy thermostat. Not if you have a 1993, which is an LT1. This is a reverse flow coolant system.

Do NOT put a normal sbc thermostat in this engine.

It shouldn't cost $30 though. Should be between $10 - $18

Autozone, NAPA, O'Reily, etc.

You don't have the LT1 engine in your car. The thermostat used in your car is not the same as whats needed for the LT1/LT4 engine.
