I read on here that it is one of the best mods you can do to a coupe. So I bought some, and read the instructions, and read the archives on here on how to do it. So I went and tried to do it. But the instructions said you would drill through two layers of fiberglass. I went down one and hit steel. What did I do wrong or is the instructions wrong. This is a 94
At what angle did you hold the drill? IIRC, the drill has to be angled towards you (the drill is away from you with the bit pointing towards you) when drilling so that the drill won't go into the cabin.
If you remove the rear inner fender liners, you should be able to see hos the drain will line up as you drill down. The tube should exit into the fenderwell.
I did it a few years ago.
I first used a narrow bit for a guide hole. I drilled very cautiously on a slight angle away from me. It went thru 2 layers. Then I used the recommended size bit.
Also, I did this when I changed my targa weatherstrip.

Be careful what you drill into. There is a wiring harness there and someone posted pics a while back of what one looks like when a drill goes through it.

What part of drilling holes in the car doesn't scare you?
I hate the thought of drilling or cutting holes into my car too. but I really hate it after you wash and detail the car, and you close the glass water goes every where. and plus my dads 91 vert has a drain holes in top door. and they seem to work very well.

I just push the water from one side to other a couple of times with a towel - works like a charm really.
I just make a cone shape out of a paper towel, stuff it in each corner, dry the rest of the car, and by the time I'm done, it pulls the water out. Works like a charm, but those drain plugs would be nice. I'm just to much of a chicken for that one!
I use an electric leaf blower to dry the whole car. I never touch it with a drying cloth. The leaf blower gets you some strange looks from the neighbors, but there is nothing like getting all the water out of the mirrors, rims, hatch area, etc.

I bet you do get some strange looks! That is a good idea. Never would have thought about that, but it is the same idea as many of the touchless car washes uses. I'll have to try that.

I would never drill holes. If it rains the car gets wet. If I'm washung the car when i finish drying the outside I take a 3' piece of 1/4" plastic tubing and syphon the water out of the corners. The tube also come in handy for syphining the water out of the hood latches.
