So, I know the Bose gold is junk but my 92 only has 11,500 miles so I wanted to keep the interior stock. The cd was the only thing that didnt work, so I went to a local place that would fix it. The catch was i had to let them take the headunit out of the car, for a $40 charge. So ok, They tell me needs a whole cd unit $249 plus the $40........ So wanting to keep the car stock I said Do it . Well 45 minutes later its done, I pay for it, go out to the car the shifter console is marked up by a screwdriver in 3 places .
So i go in and tell them about it ,not to happily, the owner come out to check it over, looks at my car ,tells me to come in his office. He tells me he's very sorry and is going to order a new console cover for me, and have it installed. So a bit happier, not much... I'm still smokin , I get in the car and head home all my regular record company made cds work great but, my cd-r copys dont.
Any ideas on why that is? They work in every other cd player I can find, ford, home, walkman, sony, everything, but the vette. Any know what cd-r brands that will work for sure in the Vettes Bose Gold. Its going to be Bose Sold if
this poopie keeps up! Should the Bose be playing the Cd-r's since they work in every other cd player. Please relpy if you have any insight to this before I call and bitch this guy out again tomorrow!!!!
Thanks'
Scott
So far every single CD I have made works in my bose, also in my Kenwood(in my truck) the Kenwood manual specifically says if the CD's aren't closed, they won't work, maybe that's what's wrong?
They aren't the world's greatest cd players. mediocre, and that's generous. I've seen a lot of complaints about them not playing CD-R's. The Memorex kind should work. It's the fault of the CD-R more.
If they're CD-RW, just forget it.
I can think of nothing he could have done that would cause it not to play CD-Rs. It's a factory flaw.
My Gold Bose system works perfectly. Plays all CD's and CDR's with no trouble. In fact, I don't know why many people in the forum complain about this system because cassette works great too. Maybe mine was built on a Tuesday ? Knocking on wood...
:smash:
When I got my car back before the summer, my cd player did not work either. My local dealership installed a new Bose Gold head unit for around $250? I was wanting to keep the stock look on the inside as well, and it plays every cd I have thrown at it. CD-Rs and all.
  My Bose in the 96 plays fantastic...except for some unknown reason it doesn't like the last two packs of Memorex CD-Rs I bought. After a few attempts and a good cussing, it will play them but won't skip to the next song....
It's always a crap shoot whether a particular CDR disc is going to work or not, particularly in older models of CD players. Even the replacement head unit still uses the same parts I think.
Some brands of discs work, some don't. Sometimes blue or green discs work, gold ones don't, or vice versa. CDR's don't work in my vette's CD player, but then again, regular CD's don't work either. :)
I have a Kenwood (POS) cd player in my vette and it won't play CDR's either. I just figured it was old and outdated. Plus it scratches the heck out of my disks. I have nothing good to say about Kenwood. This is the second one that that scratches. Don't know anything about the Bose, mine was gone when I bought my car.
Sounds like he screwed you on the head unit...Bose Gold plays them fine...almost all the new cd head units should play CD-R's...if they dont he sold you an old player for too much
Bose Cd? Whats does it do? Mine does nuthin.
Doesn't play anything? If it would play sumthin I'd be happy.
At least yours is half right.
My Bose wont play DVD's, audio Cd's, Video, game Cd's nuthin. What does it do?
Bose sucks even when it works.........
Scott, I don't blame you for being pissed. I had somewhat the same problem 2 years ago. I finally decided to add a JVC 12 disc changer. I now have a great cd system and also maintained my stock in dash Bose unit. I had the cd unit installed in my passenger side rear glove box. Total cost was about $260.00. The only player I have that won't read my burned cd's is my DVD unit. My JVC has no problems at all. As for the damage on your dash, I would be livid. I also would let the manger know that I would never be back and would advise the local Vette community to do the same. Good luck on whatever you do. Bill.
I have Bose Gold in my 95 and have had no problems playing any cd's, CD-R or CD-RW, etc plus the player rarely, if ever skips. Not sure why yours would have any problems
My Bose system plays CD-R's, and my car is a 91. I use Maxell CD's but they aint nothin' special. I'd be upset, as well. If my 10 year old Bose plays them, your "brand new" one should too.
I purchased a brand knew top of the line home theater system (nothing to do with vettes, I know) and it doesn't play cd-r's. I don't think it has anything to do with being old or outdated.
