I really dislike my 86 shifter for the 4+3. It is rough and clucky especially going from 2nd to 3rd. Are there any after market shifters to replace the OEM shifter?

Reason: spell
The factory 4+3 shifter is unique and there is no suitable replacement. The factory shifter mechanism bolts to the body at the tunnel, not to the tranny itself like the Hurst shifter does for traditional 4-speeds.
I've never even seen a bushing kit for them. There are short-thorw arms you can get that attach to the tranny. These effedtively cut the distance the shifter moves between the gear positions, but they may not take sloppiness out of the mechanisism itself.
I installed the short shift levers. It did shorten the throw, but there seems to be no such thing as silky shifting or speed shifting that beastly shifter. Disappointed!! What was GM thinking with that design? After all, shifters have been around for quite some time.
