Default Keyless Entry Problem

I had a Fob that broke, so ordered a new one, programed it, and it worked fine...until yesterday.

Now, as I approach or walk away from the car, it will not unlock or lock the door. Also, as I approach, the interior lights do not come on like they did before. If I push the Fob button, the door will unlock.

Any thoughts? I suspect that the new Fob is programed in the second position. Is there a way to erase the first and second positions and reprogram the new Fob in the first position?

As a issue that I intend to resovle later, the Fob only effects the passanger door. The electric switch on the drivers door only effects the passanger door. Anyone have an idea what I am facing in solving this problem?

Thx

I think the system is is turned "off".

Hold down the door button until you hear the locks cycle This shud turn the system "on". You can check by turning the key to the run position & looking at the lower left of the DIC for Keyless entry...if it's there the system is active, if not...

The door button on the fob is only for the passenger door. Your door button should effect both doors. How long have you had the new fob? I seem to be going through a new battery every month or so. The manual says 18 mo under normal use, but I don't know what they mean by normal use. (driven one day out of every week?)

If you sit in the car, with the doors closed, and push the door button, your doors should lock and unlock. This is how you arm & disarm. You can tell if it is armed as mentioned in previous post in the D.I.C.. If you want the PKE to only unlock the driver door, or both doors, put the key in the ignition and turn to run pos. push the door button and this will effect the passenger door. Perhaps you already know all of this. If the hatch button works, and the passenger door button works but the doors do not lock or unlock upon walking away. Then either your system is off or their is a problem in the receiver.

I will work with your suggestions this evening and let you know. By the way she is a '94 convertable.

But before I do, please confirm my understanding of how this system works.

1. The botton on the Fob only opens the passanger's door.

2. Door closed, key in the ignition, push the driver's door button, it should lock and unlock. (does the Fob need to be present?)

3. #2 arms and disarmes system.

4. Door closed, key in and turned to "run", "keyless entry" should appear in lower left corner of DIC if activated.

5. Eventhough the Fob is only new to me (week), the battery may be low.

Right?

Negative.

I've had my PKE disabled for a while, so i can't remember the answer to a couple of your questions (1 & 4). But this is how to change parameters of the PKE:

A. Key not in ignition, hold down the door button on the key fob. This will cycle the locks. This will enable/disable the entire PKE system.

B. Key in ignition (in the "off" position), hold down the door button on the key fob. This will cycle the locks. This will change the method by which the PKE locks/ unlocks both doors, or just the driver's side door.

on #5 there is a method in the FSM for troubleshooting the PKE system, (weak battery, bad transmitter, etc), so you can indeed easily find out if the battery is low or not.

If you have the owners manual there are really good instructions on how to program the fob
