The ZZ4 would be perfect for a very early C4. The later you get, the exponentially more expensive and difficult it would get. I would bet not too many people would do it although I would if I HAD too. I guess I'm saying that you may not get a ton of responses.
From the "electrical problem" statement, can I assume he's going to go carb?
What engine is your "friend" going with? I'd like to see pics when it's finished if possible.

Uggh, the thought of going carbed.
For something really different

I'd like to see a blown blue oval 5.4 DOHC put in a C4. Plenty of power and something VERY different for a vette.
{\Flame suit}
staying GM
3.8T Grand National Modified Spec with a MN6.
Just a thought. Really I'd like to see the LS7 put in a C4 but that is still a vette engine to a vette.

L92 based LSx swap would be the hot ticket in my opinion.

I have heard of a carb setup on the C4. There is a guy around here that did it. He was tired of all the electronics.
I have even thought about it myself, but mine hasn't given me much trouble.
If it did become a constant battle, I would go with a carb engine.

First: As I said, something different (Ford engine in a Chevy body. Been done but not very often).
Second: An engine that makes 500 HP stock (plenty more with pulley changes or SC swaps). Pulls hard to a redline that is only matched by an LS7. Breaths better up top than an L98, LT, or LSx (except LS7) with a flatter torque curve. Plus it's forged to take lots of boost stock. Since you mentioned cost, is cheaper than an LS7 and less costs with higher gains when modding. Let me think a second. Hrmmm...what's not to like?
I do agree for a realistic swap that a L92 based swap would be the hot ticket.

350, 4 bolt main. Same heads as the original motor that is shot.

If you put one of those Ford cammers in a C4 you wouldn't be able to see over the 3 foot bulge in the hood ! An engine from a surplus WWII Sherman tank would probably fit better

THis has to be a joke. Put a Ford cammer engine in a Vette?
Put some boost to any SBC and it will put most cars on the street to bed and have good manners, it justs costs money. CI for CI the Chevy will always make more power. Fords dont do jack for power unless you SC them, what does that tell you? have nothing against Fords, owned a number of them myself but its the truth

If I were to drop something different in I would want it to be an aluminum block.

I've been going to car shows and cruise-ins for years and I've seen plenty of SBCs in Fords, Mopars, T-Buckets, Hot Rods, etc. (I've even seen a 69 GTO with a Chevy 427 in it). But I don't EVER recall seeing a Ford engine in a Chevy of any kind. That's just wrong.

Years ago (76 about)I took a 400 sb from an Impala, installed a 151? Chevy cam, 650 Holly vacuum secondary carb, 10.5 compression pistons, and Hooker Headers in my 72 Vette. Street G60-15 Goodyear tires. Ran steady 14.0 1/4 mile @ 101 mph. Downside 10 mpg on a good day.I wonder what that engine would do in a C4.
