Default Leaking differential question

I found a little gear oil on the bottom of my exhaust under the differential. I have not checked the oil level in the differential as I have never done it with this 85 Coupe. Any suggestions of how to do it or has anyone else had this type of leak?

Is your question how to check the oil level or how to fix the leak? To check the level, remove the fill plug on the RH side of the differential and make sure the oil is up to the bottom of the hole with the plug removed. Likely the leak is at the differential to rear cover (batwing) mating surfaces as well as possibly the pinion and output yoke seals. For the latter those seals will need replaced. For the former the differential will have to be removed and (preferably) resealed with The Right Stuff which is much better and longer lasting than any RTV product.

If your a lucky person ,get your tork wrench out and tork the bolts ,I got luck one time and it worked. The next time it leaked I had to remove the bat wing and reseal.

I just replace the pinion seal on my 86. It requires removing the exhaust system. The C beam and drive shaft. You have to remove the yoke from the rear end.

Thanks, I'll try your method first and add oil accordingly. Removing the cover looks like a real pain in the (rear end).
