I have a 1985 and the dash / instrument display does not light up. In the day time, you can make out the readings but they are very dim. At night you can't see them at all. Is this a common problem? What is the solution?
I just acquired this car and it's teh only thing that is not working correctly.
Check your four bulbs (previous thread last couple of days). If the turn signal indicator and the high beam indicator stay on, that's an internal problem.
The turn signal and high beam do not STAY on, but when the headlights are on, one of the signal indicators DOES stay on. When the turn signals are on at night, (with the headlights on), the bright light and turn signal indicators flash.
When my 86 did this I could smack the dash and it would work correctly until I found the above site, solved my problems.
Thanks for the help guys. You can tap on my gauges and they do come on, (i learned something already).
In the link provided, it tells me to re-route the ground wires. Can anyone give me a clear idea of where these ground wires are located? Do I need to pull the cluster to access the ground wires or are they under the hood? It sounds as if they are accesible from under the hood, but I couldn't see them.
There should be 2 grounds. One ground mounted to the top of the bell house, driver's side, and the other inside mounted to the b pillar I believe. I too have to fix the interior ground on my 85.
