Default Headlight motor gears

I ordered replacement nylon gears from Eckler's. When I went to install both the small and large gear, the small gear slots were too small to fit over the tree (cross pin) on the shaft....really too small and could not force. Has anyone else had a similar problem?.....jim

Default Headlight problem to

Yo, what's up. Maybe you can help me. I have a moter problem to. My RH wont stay up. The moter run when I turn to the lights on. But it wont stay up. So it looks like the moter is working, but it wont stay up. Is it the moter or is it just the gears that's bad inside? I see that you can replace the wheels inside of the moter. I have a 93. Please help.

You need to install the 3 little bushings you can find in the vette catalogs. Do both sides while you are at it. Common problem as I have done both the Vettes I have owned a couple for a few of my friends.

You may not need the smaller black one. just inspect it for wear. If it is Ok then use the old one.

Tell me this, is the larger white one's teeth worn out or ground off in an area about 20%???? If this is the case it is just the white one that needs replacement. I gotta black one over there on the workbench I bought last year......never needed it. But there are two white ones sitting in the trash as of last night.

Turns out it was not the gears but a broken Stator. The magnet came loose, stuck on the rotor and eventually broke. Check to make sure what the problem is before you buy anything. The gears that Eckler sent me were no good as I had bought the pair and the black one did not fit. The white one, that was worn in the motor did, but it was a package deal and I did not need them anyhow. I ordered a new motor online but when I checked with Auto Zone, their price was $50 more but with a lifetime guarantee. I understand that these headlight motors have a habit of going bad like the window motors in my old ford truck. It was worth buying those, window motors, at Auto Zone because then I had free motors every 3 or 4 years....jim

yeah, they all list the package deal to make us all buy twice the amount we need.

For anyone listening, on the 84-87 motors the only part you should need is the Zip Products #HDL-230.....cost $22.95. This is the large white gear.

That is unless your motor sacrificed the magnet to the stator.

Glad you got your problem fixed
