I haven't noticed 6th sound any different than the others. From what I have read from other owner, is that it is common for the ZF6 to have some whine to it.

That's what I thought. I know some manual trannys have that whine to them but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced it. Thanks.
the only noise is in 1 thru 4, after that the gears are bevel or spiral cut vs a straighter cut in 1 thru 4. Maybe go to zfdoc.com and look around a bit in the Q & A section or drop Bill a note.....he's a waaay nice guy and always trys to lend his knowledge.
One thought, not a very good one either.....6th & reverse have an oiling issue in the stock trans....Bill's rebuild addresses that issue. I'm no trans guy, but I think the issue is with the bearing for those gears(???) but don't quote me. Most of the "failures" in the zf box are either syncros going bad from bad hydraulics and this thing with the oiling in rev & 6th.

Not to be insulting....just a Q...how's the fluid level & condition? Low fluid and or old fluid will make for whinning noises.
