is it possible to get a key code without paying the dealership? my father has a '94 LT-1 and lost just his door key, has the ignition key still. let me know, thank you in advance...
A key shop may be able to cut one from the VIN. Try contacting www.amazingkeys.com. I had very good service from them when my '02 Explorer ignition switch broke.

I don't know how far they go back but normally a dealer can cut a key from the VIN number.
Should be able to get it from a dealer for about $20. A locksmith can do it from the console lock, he just has to do a little arithmetic to come up with the fifth cut.
as far as the dealer goes, they want to charge $50 to get the key code and another $5.95 for the key itself. He also told me that if I had the key code then they only charge for the key. so that's what i wanted to know, if there is a place to get the code? thanks
Try calling some other GM dealers, you'll probably find one that will give you the code for free (It involves getting to the correct screen and punching in the serial number). I used to call Onstar, they would release the code to a locksmith. Or just call a couple of locksmiths (don't sound desperate!)
There are two codes, the KEY code, and the VATS code. Tell a locksmith the code for any given key, and he can duplicate the key without ever seeing it.
