Before I go tearing off on this problem, thought I'd see what the concensus might be here...
'87 Coupe. Seems to be coming from right, rear. Squeak that varies with tire speed. Not groaning sound, higher pitched squeak. Not continuous- squeak-pause-squeak-pause-etc. Started out to be worse when cold and then diminish after a 1/2 mile. Now seems to be lasting longer. First thought was bearing, second: brake, third: Ujoint, forth: diff (fluid change?)
If it "clunks" when put into gear I would opt for the U-joint. Just replaced one of mine last weekend, it was making this awful scraping noise. Needle bearings were starting to desolve and two end caps turned black. Check rear hub play.
my brakes used to make one nasty hell of a sound... try and rule them out before doing anything expensive... (warped rotors or worn brake pads cause the noise if i am not mistaken...)

Re: Squeak from left rear (red-y)
I just fixed one at work today on a 84. It had a squeek everytime you went over a bounce. This was a two part fix. The car had bad rear links for the stablizer bar. The links wore and the bushings were bad. GM now makes thicker links with better bushings. The second part of this was it had a bad shock on the right side. The upper bushing was bad.
Corvette Ed,
Thanks, this may be my problem. I first noticed a slight squeek after the exhaust was installed. Then when the rear end was changed it became worse.
Any other things to check? :smash:
