Default Rotor recommendations?

So about a year ago I bought some rotors from Napa for my 95 LT1 w/HD. Little did I know that they would rust all over the place and look like crap, now that I have ZR1 style wheels and can see them!!!

I was looking at those Eradispeeds, but they are sooo expensive! I just like how the 'hat' of the rotor is black painted aluminum which looks awesome plus they seem like the best rotors out there.

Does anyone have a brand they recommend? I just want something that will at least look good/run well, and won't look like crap in 2 years.

Simply paint them. Cheap and works great.

TTT... I am interested.... I need to replace all of my rotors too and I am looking towards the crossdrilled and slotted ones as well as I upgrade from base chitty 12" c4 front rotors and callipers to the c5 callipers and rotors up front... I was at the Eradispeed but they are really expensive... What other options are out there

I painted my rotor hats a gunmetal gray when I painted my rotors... it looks pretty good.... Just wire brush them tape them off and paint them if you just want to get rid of the rusty look

I'm not advocating that you should get the Eradispeeds, as indeed they are very expensive, but, I do have them front and rear and am very satisfied with them. The hat is aluminum anodized black, not painted; they are clearly lighter than the nearly all other rotors. I have had mine for about a year, am a fairly aggressive street driver (at 57) and have had no problems with warping or rusting in that time. I find the lower unsprung weight to be well worth it on the bumpy real world streets I drive on. Wear has been negligible (essentially unnoticeable in around 5K of driving). I suspect they will likely serve out the life of the car, but if they didn't, I'd almost surely purchase them again.

That said, there are a couple of ways you can reduce rusting. One, as others have said, is to paint the hats. Its a fairly simple procedure whether you spray or brush. You'll likely get longer life out of HT paint, but since it is so easy to paint them, you may do just as well with cheaper paint and touch them up more often.

The other thing I'd recommend is using a leaf blower to dry the rotors after you wash the car, or after you drive in the rain. This will cut down on rusting a lot, and doesn't take long to accomplish.

I redid my brakes last summer on my 95. I am a perfectionist. I read everything i could on brakes. I like the look of slotted drilled rotors BUT they are not legal in most forms of racing because they don't hold up under heavy stress. I went with ceramic pads and heavy duty rotors from NAPA. I cleaned and painted them and my calipers with silver caliper paint. While I had everthing apart I cleaned an polished the suspension It looks awesome!

before I replaced my OEM rotors I used BBQ paint & followed up with a semi-gloss chassis paint on the hats....it was cheap & it worked....but I was okay with the semi-gloss finish.:o

I bought a replacement set from rotorsonline....before christmas they were dumping C4 stuff at $200.00 w/shipping for all 4 d'ed & s'ed w/zinc wash.....their price was cheaper than the NAPA store's price on OE replacement stock rotors...so I figured why not?

I've only put like 500 miles on them but I'm satisfied that they aren't gonna fall apart.

I bought GM Performance drilled /slotted rotors & Durastop ceramic pads package from "Partsladi" on ebay for approx $450. The rotors are high quality (chamfered holes, zinc coating) and are holding up well. The ceramic pads are practically dustless.

Those are some good looking rotors. I might just go that route my self.

100% I have these Rotors on my ZR-1 and they are awesome! Good advice on paint and leaf blower too!
You get what you pay for with rotors. Call the vendor Tbyrne - I think he has a big sale on these rotors. If you don't want to spend that kind of dough then try to find a good used set. I had an extra set a few years ago, they were like new. I sold them on this forum for peanuts. Should have kept them (I'm a pack rat) as I now want to put a set on the C5 I just purchased.

Check out Eastwoods for their plating kits.Stops the rust and looks better than paint.Or just make sure when you buy new you get plated rotors.

I have these in black (although they come in both black & silver):

http://brakeperformance.com/site/bra..._339&ad=google

The rotors are completely black when you receive them, including the dimples & slots. The only surface that doesn't remain black is where the pads touch the rotor. I'm really satisfied w/ these, they look great & perform very well.

Check Brembo, Performance friction rotors, Eradispeed, Stoptech.

They all offer two piece rotors which offer less weight and better heat management

I have replaced my stockers (that worked fantastic) J55s with GS Black front calipers and Raybestos front and rear slotted and drilled rotors and Raybestos Ceramic pads. Not good. Bad vibration at 70-80 hard braking. This is the second front set that Rock Auto replaced. The pads work fine with almost no dust however.

I just ordered the BSI deal offered to the forum for $299. 4 rotors (slotted only) zinc'd and cryo'd and Hawk HPS pads. I'm doing the brakes again? Bummer, but they suck now at higher speeds and my car is cherry. More dough for the plastic mistress

I will certainly review the change hoping for smooth eye popping stops.
